How to set up server tags

As server owner or admin

  1. Get 3 available Server Boosts. Server tags are an extra perk – no particular boost level needed.
  2. Open the “Server Boosts” tab in the upper left and click “Enable Perk” on Server Tags.
  3. In Server Settings → “Server Tag” you set the name (up to 4 characters), badge and color.
  4. If you change the tag later, every member has to re-apply it. Changes are rate-limited.

Extra badge packs cost more boosts: Creepy Crawlies (2), Pet (3), Plant (3), Flex (5).

As a member

  1. Desktop/browser: User Settings → “Profiles” → “Server Tag” → “Select”.
  2. Mobile: tap your avatar in the bottom right → “Edit Profile” → “Server Tags”.
  3. You can wear one tag at a time. It shows next to your name in chat, the member list and DMs.
  4. Others tap your tag and see the server profile – with “Join Server”.

Good to know: tags don't have to be unique, the server sets the color, and you can't restrict who wears the tag. If the boosts run out, the tag disappears for everyone.

How it works

  1. Enter your server name – the tool suggests abbreviations, initials and versions with numbers.
  2. Click a suggestion or type your own tag (up to 4 characters).
  3. Pick a badge shape and colors and check the preview.
  4. Enter the tag in Discord under Server Settings → Server Tag.

In the API the tag is primary_guild.tag (max 4 characters). The badges in the preview are our own simple shapes – in Discord you choose from Discord's badges.

FAQ

What is a Discord server tag?

A server tag is a short label of up to 4 characters plus a small badge. Members can wear it on their profile and it then shows next to their name everywhere – in chat, the member list and DMs.

What does a server tag cost?

The server needs 3 Server Boosts that an owner or admin applies to the perk in the “Server Boosts” tab. No particular boost level is required. Extra badge packs cost 2 to 5 more boosts.

Which characters are allowed in a server tag?

According to Discord: letters, digits and “certain” special characters. Spaces and emojis don't work. Discord doesn't publish the exact list of special characters, so the tool marks them as “test it”.

How do I put a server tag on my profile?

Desktop: User Settings → Profiles → Server Tag → Select. Mobile: avatar in the bottom right → Edit Profile → Server Tags. You can wear one tag at a time.

Does my tag have to be unique?

No, several servers can use the same tag. The combination of tag and badge is what makes your server recognizable.

What happens when I change the tag?

Every member has to re-apply the new tag themselves. Changes are also rate-limited, so you can't change it as often as you like.
